Alistair Overeem's striking power is inhuman, at least according to former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.
After getting stopped in the first round of their UFC 141 bout with a vicious liver kick, Lesnar had few words to describe what being kicked by the best heavyweight striker in the world felt like.
"It felt like I got kicked by a horse," Lesnar told Cage Potato.
Following the loss, Lesnar officially announced his retirement from the sport. The former WWE superstar had been plagued over the course of his UFC career with back to back cases of diverticulitis, an intestinal disorder.
There have been off and on talks about an impending retirement due to the severity of the illness, but Lesnar continued to show tremendous resilience in his ability to recover and return against high-level opposition.
In an interview with Jim Rome, UFC President Dana White explained Lesnar's mindset leading up to the Overeem bout.
"The conversations I've had with Brock Lesnar since that fight, all indications point to it's over. Here's what Brock said to me, he said 'I'll tell you what. After my surgery from diverticulitis, this last surgery I had, I have never felt so good in my life.' He said 'I've had the best camp I've ever had, no injuries, I was in great shape. All the things that could go right went right. That guy is just that much better than me, and it's time to retire.'"
Lesnar's decision to call it quits looms heavily over the MMA world. As a former world champion and perennial top-10 heavyweight, it's easy to forget that Lesnar has only had eight fights in his professional career. He was still a babe in the sport.
With the win, Overeem now moves on to challenge Junior Dos Santos for the UFC title.
Dos Santos boasts one of the sturdiest chins in all of MMA, but he had better utilize good defense to avoid "The Reem's" power.
Few men get kicked by a horse and live to tell the tale.
